Convenience store sales fall 4.2% in Aug.


TOKYO, Sept. 20 Kyodo

Sales at Japan's convenience stores The following is a list of convenience stores organized by geographical location. Stores are grouped by the lowest heading that contains all locales in which the brands have significant presence.  fell 4.2% in August from a year earlier, marking the second straight monthly decline, the Japan Franchise Association said Thursday Thursday: see week. .

The percentage change, adjusted for variations in the number of stores, is based on stores that have been open for at least one year and exclude stores newly opened or closed during the period.

The number of customers also dropped 2.3% in August, the first year-on-year decline in seven months, which was attributed in part to typhoons and lower-than-expected temperatures in the month.

Average spending per customer also fell 0.9%.
