Control Data Weds Global Directory and LDAP Technologies for Performance Breakthrough.

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 1998--Control Data Systems, Inc. today announced the availability of a new directory data store engine that combines the strengths of memory- and disk-based technologies to offer unprecedented scalability and performance.

The capability solidifies Control Data's position as one of the world's leading providers of directory solutions for service providers and government-wide installations. The Large Directory Engine (LDE) combines the latest LDAP technology in a disk-based data store with the capabilities of Control Data's X.500 Global Directory Server (GDS500). It enhances the company's ability to handle massive directory jobs with leading-edge technology.

Even though disk-based directories have been available for some time, none has combined disk and memory solutions with X.500 and LDAP technologies for the benefit of enterprise directory customers. Control Data customers will now have the opportunity to address their business problems in much more flexible ways. The LDE will allow customers to handle directories approaching 100 million entries on a single server, with performance that exceeds current memory-based solutions. It will also improve scalability and manageability over equivalent memory-based directories, reducing the administrative load.

The new data store incorporates advanced indexing and caching technology that is tuned for very large environments. As a result, it provides exceptional search performance, and reduces start up time to only a fraction of the time required to start up a similar memory-based product.

Control Data specifically designed the Large Directory Engine to thrive under the pressure of its most demanding clients. LDE is available initially on only a Sun Solaris platform, but Control Data plans to make it available on other platforms before the end of the year. The LDE's use of LDAP technology in its basic architecture is expected to provide Control Data with flexibility in future development opportunities.
