Contracting out of drug plan opposed.


The Ontario government's plan to contract out the Trillium Drug Plan by June 30th, is being opposed by an Ontario Public Service Employees Union The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is a trade union that represents about 115,000 employees in the broader public service of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Its president (as of 2007) is Warren (Smokey) Thomas.  which has launched a campaign against the change.

The Trillium Drug Program provides subsidies to more than 200,000 Ontarians who face extreme drug costs as a result of arthritis, cancer, cystic fibrosis cystic fibrosis (sĭs`tĭk fībrō`sĭs), inherited disorder of the exocrine glands (see gland), affecting children and young people; median survival is 25 years in females and 30 years in males. , heart disease, HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome , multiple sclerosis, lung disease lung disease Pulmonary disease Pulmonology Any condition causing or indicating impaired lung function Types of LD Obstructive lung disease–↓ in air flow caused by a narrowing or blockage of airways–eg, asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis;  and other serious health problems.

The union argues that the province has had problems with breaches of security and confidentiality in services contracted out to private entrepreneurs.
