, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

Specifically, this marks the company's delivery on the first phase of its multiplatform strategy to bring Continuus' change management solutions to software teams developing on a mix of PC and UNIX desktop and server platforms.

In addition to being a Windows native client, Continuus 4.1 for Windows also supports remote development through client-level, work-area replication and adds new reconcile functionality to update the repository system; supports mobile developers; provides hierarchical project check-in and check-out; and allows direct migration from Intersolv's PVCS A popular system of version control and configuration management software from Serena Software, Inc., San Mateo, CA, that runs on DOS, Windows, OS/2 and various Unix platforms. It is widely used on PC-based LANs.  archives.

Continuus release 4.1 demonstrations will be available at the Continuus Booth No. 1950 here at Unix Expo in the Jacobs Javitz Convention Center.

"We are happy to be extending our process approach to software change management to the Windows platform. The beta program for release 4.1 of Continuus/CM and PT will pay special attention to assessing and meeting the needs of mixed UNIX and Windows development teams," commented John Wark John Wark (born Glasgow, 4 August 1957) was a Scottish footballer who grew up in the Ipswich Town side of the 1970s and went on to become a player synonymous with the club. New Features

Continuus' Windows client will contain the same set of features as the UNIX workstation client, ensuring users full Continuus/CM and PT functionality independent of the desktop environment. All core functionality including workflow management, advanced build management, distributed and third party code management and integrated change management are included in the new Continuus for Windows client product.

In addition, the new Continuus release 4.1 features both a native Microsoft Windows See Windows.

support. In release 4.1, Continuus adds support for remote development through a client replication scheme that projects a developer's work area to his or her local PC and provides new functionality that reconciles code changes once a developer reconnects to the repository. With the addition of remote development support, Continuus offers the broadest array of team development options available today.

-- Direct Migration From PVCS Archives: Release 4.1 allows developers to directly migrate information stored in Intersolv's PVCS. The release features an enhanced project migration facility that allows project data and version history to be automatically retrieved from PVCS archives.

-- ObjectMake: Continuus' ObjectMake facility runs on the PC using either ObjectMake format Makefiles or Microsoft NMAKE format Makefiles. Microsoft's NMAKE format is the native format used in the Visual C++ environment. Developers can perform their edit/compile/debug cycle using Visual C++. The build manager can run the Visual C++ generated makefile under ObjectMake for controlled, reproducible builds. ObjectMake also supports distributed builds across a network of PC build systems.

-- Native Windows GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  and Command Line Interface for Batch operations: All three Windows clients contain a full-function GUI. The Windows NT and Windows 95 clients also add a full Command Line Interface which can be used either intermixed with the GUI, or in standalone DOS batch files A file of DOS commands that are "batch" processed one after the other. Windows also supports batch files (see Windows batch file), which are mostly identical to the DOS commands.

To create a DOS batch file, use a text editor such as Edit.
. This is especially useful for automating nightly or repetitive processing.

-- Hierarchical Check in/Check out: Continuus release 4.1 offers hierarchical project check in and check out. Developers and build managers can now save time and automate build management on large scale software projects. -0-

The Continuus 4.1 Beta Program

As part of pre-release testing, the Continuus development organization has been using release 4.1 UNIX and Windows clients against software production databases for comprehensive change management since August.

The Continuus 4.1 beta program supporting NT clients will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, beta product supporting Windows NT clients will be shipped to premium beta sites beginning with Aspect Telecommunications, Tivoli Systems, Texas Instruments, and Walker, Richer & Quinn.

Continuus will provide these "premium" beta customers with on-site consulting support to set up the pilot projects, full telephone support and account management support throughout testing. Specific feedback on interface design and integration with common PC development environments will be key areas of interest.

Phase two of the beta program, scheduled to begin in November, will ship Continuus for Windows 4.1 with support for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 clients. Beta customers are currently being signed. Standard beta customers are also being used in greater numbers for both phases, with less intensive support.
