Continuous Improvement Principles Evolve into MARKEM Corporation's Corporate Culture.

The company launched a formal continuous improvement effort in 2000 after many years of separate activities, starting with a set of team leaders and basing it on the Lean principles created by the Toyota Production System The Toyota Production System (TPS) is the philosophy which organizes manufacturing and logistics at Toyota, including the interaction with suppliers and customers. The TPS is a major part of the more generic "Lean manufacturing". . Lean principles include gaining a better understanding of what customers want to pay for; elimination of waste; and developing a company-wide environment for change. The continuous improvement initiative began in the company's operations division in Keene, NH as a way to maintain manufacturing in the U.S. and prevent its migration overseas. However, continuous improvement events quickly extended worldwide into all areas of MARKEM.
