Continuous Computing and Mindspeed to Deploy Key Integrated HDLC and Software Solution.

Collaboration Provides Telecom Equipment Manufacturers with High-Quality, Cost-Effective Solution for Expediting Deployment of Fixed Mobile Convergence Seamless switching between cellular and local networks for mobile users. The goal is to have a handset that switches automatically from the cellular network to the local, wireless Wi-Fi network when entering a building in order to save cellphone minutes.  Systems

SAN DIEGO & NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Continuous Computing([R]), global provider of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN (Next Generation Networks) An umbrella term for mixed voice and data networks running over the IP protocol. ), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced a strategic agreement to integrate the companies' expertise in software and hardware, respectively. Continuous Computing's Trillium([R]) software coupled with Mindspeed's High-Level Data Link Controller (HDLC (High-level Data Link Control) A data link protocol from ISO for point-to-point communications over serial links. Derived from IBM's SDLC protocol, HDLC has been the basis for numerous protocols including X.25, ISDN, T1, SS7, GSM, CDPD, PPP and others. ) products will offer telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) a single source through which to meet customer demand for a cost-effective and easy-to-implement hardware / software solution. These devices are well-suited for fixed mobile convergence (FMC See fixed mobile convergence. ) applications requiring low risk and rapid implementation, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) enabled media gateways, signaling gateways and 3G wireless network equipment.

Integration of Trillium SS7 protocol software with Mindspeed's state-of-the-art HDLC technology addresses a major industry challenge wherein TEMs are tasked to provide not only the least expensive solutions, but also to deliver products to market quickly. The Mindspeed HDLC products have been pre-integrated and tested with the Trillium SS7 software, thereby enabling TEMs to meet these market requirements while also mitigating technical risk.

"With the integration of Mindspeed's HDLC products and Continuous Computing's Trillium protocol software, we are able to offer TEMs a combined solution with the same core technology, allowing for low risk, quick implementation and cost savings," said Mike Dagenais, chief executive officer of Continuous Computing. "For Continuous Computing, this partnership with Mindspeed provides a new channel through which we can market and sell to TEMs. Additionally, it extends Continuous Computing's industry-leading Trillium SS7 technology to the chip-level of a telecom system."

Trillium SS7 software offers a complete standards-based implementation, including variant support for deployment worldwide, and is ideal for developing carrier-grade equipment with wide geographic deployment potential. TEMs approach Mindspeed when their equipment is required to terminate data and signaling traffic using HDLC protocol. A chip integrated with pre-tested and field-proven Trillium protocol software reduces the risk of having technical problems with the system design.

"Our collaboration with Continuous Computing enables us to provide a more complete solution to our customers," said Taqi Mohiuddin, executive director of marketing for Mindspeed. "Incorporating Trillium, the industry's leading protocol stack software, as a value-add on our processor product line will set Mindspeed apart from the competition as a high-quality, low-cost solution designed to expedite TEMs' time-to-market."
