), a leading provider of voice-over-packet platform solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, Friday announced its new 12-inch deep CompactPCI system designed for Central Office and other telecommunications applications.

The system saves valuable space with a re-designed backplane that makes all cabling accessible from the front and allows lines and DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  cards to be replaced without detaching cables.

Designed for installation in Central Offices where space is at a premium, the 12-inch deep front-access form factor is advantageous because it allows frames to be put back-to-back or directly against a wall. The system enables the deployment of significant compute power in high-density configurations, pushing intelligence to the edge of the network.

"The two most important qualities of any Central Office system are scalability and reliability," said Ken Kalb, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Continuous Computing. "This frame optimizes on both, providing a more robust platform at a significant space savings."

The new system provides the same functionality as a standard CompactPCI system and the absence of transition cards means fewer components and a longer mean time before failure (MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) The average time a component works without failure. It is the number of failures divided by the hours under observation.

The 12-inch system includes the Continuous Control Node (CCN CCN Cloud Condensation Nuclei

It allows a system administrator to monitor and manage servers and other network equipment by remote control regardless of  tool for CompactPCI. Also included is upSuite(TM), CCPU's High Availability middleware that supports disk mirroring at wire-line speeds with sub-second failover.
