Continuing to expand Web enablement; SAS Institute signs Java licensing agreement with Sun.


CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 1997--SAS Institute Inc. today announced that it has licensed JavaTM technologies from JavaSoft, a business unit of Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. This new agreement builds upon the Institute's current strategic relationship with Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC SMCC - Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation. ) under which SAS Institute SAS Institute Inc., headquartered in Cary, North Carolina, USA, has been a major producer of software since it was founded in 1976 by Anthony Barr, James Goodnight, John Sall and Jane Helwig.  is a top tier global partner. This existing relationship with Sun has allowed both companies to pioneer new products such as the Institute's Scalable Performance Data ServerTM. The JavaSoft agreement allows SAS Institute to design software based upon upcoming Java technology.
