In the case of a railroad, it refers to a company that is a subsidiary but operates with its own identity and rolling stock.  has been co-awarded a preferred provider contract with the County of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , to provide home medical equipment to patients at five County administrated hospitals. The three-year contract begins July 1, 2002 and was co-awarded to Continental and the existing service provider, which had been servicing the contract alone for greater than a decade. The contract covers five different County facilities, including greater Los Angeles' largest medical facility, LAC-USC Medical Center. Each facility will choose between Continental, the alternate provider, or both, to offer home medical equipment, respiratory equipment, and other related products. This contract is anticipated to be valued in excess of US$5.0 million annually.
