Continental to Buy AT&T Network System's Equipment Continental has selected AT&T Network System's 5ESS-2000 switch to route voice traffic over its 14,700 miles of telecommunications networks. The switch, which can be used with analog, mixed analog/ digital or all-digital networks, will handle data and video switched applications as well. The company will use Synchronous Optical Network (networking) Synchronous Optical NETwork - (SONET) A broadband networking standard based on point-to-point optical fibre networks. SONET will provide a high-bandwidth "pipe" to support ATM-based services.
