In September 1999, Continental flew 5.0 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 6.9 billion available seat miles Available seat miles (ASM) is a measure of an airline flight's passenger carrying capacity. It is equal to the number of seats available multiplied by the number of miles flown. This measures an airlines capacity for transporting passengers.  (ASMs), resulting in a traffic increase of 9.3 percent on a capacity increase of 9.2 percent versus September 1998. International traffic was 2.0 billion RPMs, up 23.3 percent from September 1998 and international capacity was 2.5 billion ASMs, up 18.4 percent from last year.
