Deadline for the Cave Canem Poetry Prize 2002 is quickly approaching. Cave Canem was founded in 1996 by award-winning poets Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady Cornelius Eady (b. 1954) is an American poet focusing largely on matters of race and society, particularly the trials of the African-American race in the United States. His poetry often centers around jazz and blues, family life, violence, and societial problems stemming from  to promote the artistic development of emerging African-American poets. The contest is open to African-American poets and authors of chapbooks and self-published books who have not been published by a professional press.
