Contact lenses cause damage to eye sight.

LAHORE, March 11, 2011 (Balochistan Times): Indiscriminate use of contact lenses can cause irreversible damage to eye sight, said senior Ophthalmologist Prof. Dr Zahid Kamal Siddiqui. He said that growing trend to use contact lenses as fashion accessory led to frequent instances of eye related trauma. In reply to a question, he said the use of contact lenses was not advisable for everyone and people prior to use lenses must get their eyes duly examined by a qualified eye specialist. People with complaints of arthritis, joint problem, glaucoma, allergy and dryness in eye must not apply contact lenses under any condition he added. To another question, he said the use of lenses in humid weather coupled with high pollution levels in the country hazardous for eyes. The situation gets all the more aggravated due to rampant indifference towards hygiene by the users, commented the doctor. Referring to the cases brought to him Dr Zahid said victims of contact lenses induced eye trauma brought to him usually comprise young girls.
