Consumers Illinois to Begin $500,000 Rehabilitation to North Vermilion Street Water Tanks; Slight Pressure Reductions Possible.

Business Editors

DANVILLE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2000

Consumers Illinois Water Company (Consumers) is beginning a $500,000 tank rehabilitation project during the week of June 26, 2000. Consumers will drain the three-million-gallon water storage standpipe standpipe, tank or pipe for holding water in an elevated position to create pressure in a water supply system. For a tall building, where the pressure from the mains at street level is insufficient to raise the water to the upper floors, water is pumped up to the  at the 2300 block of North Vermilion to facilitate scheduled maintenance, including sandblasting Sandblasting or bead blasting[1] is a generic term for the process of smoothing, shaping and cleaning a hard surface by forcing solid particles across that surface at high speeds; the effect is similar to that of using sandpaper, but provides a more even finish  and repainting of both the interior and exterior.

Consumers does not expect any problems related to this water tank maintenance; however, certain areas north of Winter Avenue may experience slightly lower than normal water pressures for brief periods of time during the project.

In addition to sandblasting and repainting the insides and outsides of both tanks, Hanfland Painting Contractors will also be making structural modifications and improvements to both tanks, including new tank access hatches and tank drain modifications to improve future maintenance and inspection capabilities.

While the three-million-gallon standpipe is being painted, the 300,000-gallon spheroid, which is the taller water tower adjacent to the standpipe, will provide the north end of Danville with fire protection and pressure. The standpipe should be back in service by mid-September. As soon as the standpipe is back in service, the spheroid water tower will be drained for identical maintenance and repainting. While the spheroid water tower is out of service, the adjacent standpipe will provide fire protection and pressure to Danville's north side. The spheroid water tower should be back in service by mid to late-November.
