Lit.: Robinson Crusoe] See : Servant announced that it signed an agreement to sell its universal life block of business to American Merchants Life Insurance Co., Jacksonville, Fla., for $5 million. The sale is expected to be completed by Dec. 31. The company also received notice from its joint venture partner, World Insurance Co., that it intends to exercise its option to purchase its block of universal life business for a purchase price of $1.85 million. This is expected to be completed by April 30, 1995. The company had previously sold its traditional block of individual life insurance business on Dec. 31, 1992. This universal life business is the remaining portion of the individual life insurance business owned by the company. "The sale of the universal life insurance business will increase the statutory capital of its life insurance subsidiaries by over $4.8 million, and allow the company to focus on building its core businesses of credit insurance and auto auction operations," James C. Robertson, chairman, president and chief executive officer said.
