Consumers Agree with Kashi(R) Company That Health Food Doesn't Have to Taste Like Cardboard.

More Than 100,000 Votes Cast in the One-Month Granola Bar Cardboard Showdown

"We are thrilled by the positive response to our TLC[TM] Chewy Trail Mix granola bars," says Grogg. "102,703 people voted, and 52 percent agreed that our product is tasty. We all remained confident that the granola bars would do well in the taste test, and these numbers confirm what we at Kashi have believed all along - that nutritious food doesn't have to taste like cardboard."

The challenge invited consumers to log onto the Kashi Web site, www.kashi.com, to request a free granola bar. After receiving and trying the bar, tasters voted online to indicate whether they thought the bar was "quite tasty," or "tasted a lot like cardboard." For those who loved the bar but couldn't resist the idea of seeing Jeff eat the box anyway, a third alternative provided was "quite tasty, but eat the box."

"This online challenge was a fun and engaging way to prove that Kashi's all-natural foods are also delicious," says Grogg. "A majority of consumers voted that the bars were tasty but 34 percent of them wanted to see me eat the box anyway," he exclaimed. "It seems the Kashi consumer has both great taste and a great sense of humor Noun 1. sense of humor - the trait of appreciating (and being able to express) the humorous; "she didn't appreciate my humor"; "you can't survive in the army without a sense of humor"

The cardboard box eating stunt would have taken place on Thursday, October 19. "I was prepared to eat the box," says Grogg. "But I am definitely relieved that now I am off the hook!"

Video clips of Grogg's victory speech are available on the Kashi Web site, www.kashi.com, until Monday, October 30.
