Consumers Admit Loyalty Takes Back Seat to Auto Policy Pricing.


Although more than 75% of consumers are generally content with their automobile insurance providers, many also report that they would switch to another provider for a better price, according to according to

About 20% of customers indicated that they would switch insurers if it meant a $100 reduction in their premium, according to results of the National Auto Insurance Customer Satisfaction study conducted by J.D. Power & Associates. More than 50% said they would leave their carrier if it would result in a savings of $200 or more.

The study was based on responses from more than 13,000 auto policyholders in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

Still, three companies scored well in overall customer satisfaction.

Amica Mutual Insurance Amica Mutual Insurance is a mutual insurance company founded in 1907 and located in Lincoln, Rhode Island offering primarily auto, home, and life insurance. The company is licensed in 49 US states with most business concentrated in the Northeastern United States, Florida, Texas,  Co. ranked the highest, capturing a score of 909 on a scale of 0 to 1,000, with 1,000 being the highest.  Insurance Co. was No. 2, with a score of 852, followed by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., which had a score of 841.

 Group scored the highest among all the companies, coming in with a score of 937, but it wasn't included in the ranking because it insures only active and retired military personnel and their families.

 commitments made at the time of purchase; the ongoing support and guidance provided by company personnel; billing practices; and price competitiveness, the study said.

Also important, especially among policyholders who had filed a claim, was an insurer's ability " to settle claims quickly and fairly," Frank Forkin, partner at J.D. Power, said in a statement.
