However, unlike users of corporate mobile email solutions, Singaporean consumers overwhelmingly want the ability to choose which emails they receive. The survey of adult consumers in Singapore was conducted by MarketShare on behalf of Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq:CPTH), a leading provider of messaging software and services. The survey figures show that more than one-third (37%) of Singaporeans This is an alphabetical list of notable Singaporeans sorted by surnames/family names. (46%) citing that emails from friends matter most -- more so than emails from spouses, girlfriends and boyfriends. It is also interesting to note that despite wanting mobile email, the majority of Singaporeans (85%) are not willing to buy an expensive new mobile phone to get it. "There is a big opportunity for mobile operators in Asia to drive data revenue with consumer mobile email, which is largely untapped," said Mike Serbinis, Chief Technology Officer, Critical Path. "The key to success is to deliver an experience that consumers want and not just retro-fit enterprise solutions. Consumers don't don't 1. Contraction of do not. 2. Also known as "unsolicited commercial e-mail" (UCE), "unsolicited bulk e-mail" (UBE), "gray mail" and just plain "junk mail," the term is both a noun (the e-mail message) and a verb (to send it). . Consumers want an affordable solution that works on their current phone and delivers the messages that matter." Critical Path conducted the Singapore survey to research consumer attitudes about email and, in particular, to gauge interest in the use of mobile email services See Internet e-mail service. . The survey results demonstrated the significant importance of email communication in Singapore, further highlighting the opportunity for mobile operators to provide a mobile email service for the consumer mass market. The research found that 56 percent of Singapore consumers would feel "out of touch" with friends and family without email access for just a single week, while 23 percent said it would take only a couple of days without email to feel out of touch. Furthermore, more than two-thirds of survey respondents will still check email for messages from family and friends while on holiday. The survey also revealed that Singaporean consumers want mobile email that is simple and affordable with 48 percent citing "low cost" as a most important mobile email feature and 43 percent citing "ease-of-use" as most important. "The polling results provide us with interesting insight into the mobile email market," added Serbinis. "It is clear that consumers have unique needs and behaviors, and that the solutions business executives use will not satisfy the mass market. Operators who offer a low-cost service that's easy to use with the ability to control which messages are received will reap the biggest rewards." Other interesting findings: Friends Matter Most: 46 percent ranked emails from friends as priority emails. Only 25 percent of Singapore respondents ranked emails from their spouses as priority emails. Ex's Matter More Than Spouses: 40 percent of respondents do not want emails from their spouse spouse A legal marriage partner as defined by state law during personal time, while only 29 percent of respondents stated they do not want emails from their ex-boyfriend Noun 1. ex-boyfriend - a man who is no longer a woman's boyfriend adult male, man - an adult person who is male (as opposed to a woman); "there were two women and six men on the bus" or ex-girlfriend. Lifestyle Matters: 46 percent of 18-29 year olds said email on their mobile phone would make their lives easier, compared to only 28 percent of respondents over the age of 45. Time Off Matters: Unsurprisingly, the survey revealed that the most unpopular person to receive email from during personal time is your boss. 74 percent of Singapore consumers say they get emails from their boss while on holiday, despite not wanting these emails.
