Consul and Proginet Form Alliance to Ease Multi-Platform Password Management.RALEIGH, N.C. and GARDEN CITY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1998--Consul Risk Management and Proginet Corporation today announced an alliance to provide integrated security administration that extends the reach of mainframe security to client/server networks. The alliance includes: an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and agreement; interoperability between the companies' key products: Consul/RACF, Consul/Audit, and Proginet's SecurPass(TM); a joint marketing and sales arrangement; and joint customer training and support initiatives. Consul will sell the integrated products through its direct and indirect channels under the name Consul/OnePass(TM). Consul will also sell SecurPass(TM) through a distribution agreement with Proginet. "Consul's advanced security administration and reporting tools, coupled with Proginet's proven Password Synchronization Password synchronization is defined as any process or technology that helps users to maintain a single password that is subject to a single security policy, and changes on a single schedule across multiple systems. Technology, provides powerful benefits of enterprise security integration to users, administrators, and the helpdesk environment at large organizations," said Dr. Gilbert Houtekamer, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of Consul International. "Proginet's alliance with Consul Risk Management enables large companies to acquire a comprehensive and integrated enterprise security solution from one vendor with a faster and smoother implementation," added Kevin M. Kelly, President and CEO of Proginet. "This relationship is consistent with Proginet's expanded indirect sales channel approach." Existing enterprise-wide security administration products require customers to make substantial changes to the way they do business. Consul/OnePass, using Proginet technology developed in collaboration with Microsoft, extends RACF (Resource Access Control Facility) IBM mainframe security software introduced in 1976 that verifies user ID and password and controls access to authorized files and resources. RACF - Resource Access Control Facility functionality throughout the enterprise, without requiring security staff to replace production administrative systems. This is a result of Proginet's password synchronization solution, which provides most of the important benefits of Single Sign On without requiring additional software to be installed on every desktop. One key benefit is that users will now have to keep track of only one password for multiple systems. Password-related calls to the helpdesk, which can represent up to 80% of all helpdesk calls, will be greatly reduced, and will be handled much more efficiently and securely when they do occur.
