Construction underway on New York Law School building.Pavarini McGovern is currently in the early stages of construction for a new, approximately 213,000 s/f academic building for NY Law School. Once complete, the facility will consist of five stories above- and four levels belowgrade, in an "L" shaped plan with a slurry wall A slurry wall is a type of wall used to build tunnels, to open cuts, and to lay foundations in areas of soft earth close to open water or with a high ground water table. A set of guide walls, typically 1 metre (3.3 ft) deep and 0.5 metre (1. , bathtub foundation. The project site is located on the southeast corner of Leonard Street and West Broadway adjacent to the existing NY Law School facility in lower Manhattan Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York. Lower Manhattan is generally defined as the area delineated on the north by Chambers Street, on the west by the Hudson River (North . The work will also include a new multi-story connector to join existing NY Law School buildings with the new one. This project is a major phase of NY Law's expansion program, supporting their planned growth at the Worth Street campus. The new building will primarily be a curtain wall curtain wall Nonbearing wall of glass, metal, or masonry attached to a building's exterior structural frame. After World War II, low energy costs gave impetus to the concept of the tall building as a glass prism, an idea originally put forth by Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies clad box from the second through the fifth floors. The exterior enclosure along the north facade will consist of a structural glazing system spanning from the second level through the fourth floor. Minimal details of the assembly will enhance visibility into the interior public space beyond. A grand stair will run along this facade connecting the entry level to the fifth floor. A setback at the fifth floor will provide an outdoor dining terrace. A highly transparent storefront assembly will enclose the fifth floor. An open metal trellis 1. The ground floor exterior wall will consist of a glass storefront system along the west entry and a solid wall with granite cladding The plastic or glass sheath that is fused to and surrounds the core of an optical fiber. The cladding's mirror-like coating keeps the light waves reflected inside the core. The cladding is covered with a protective outer jacket. Deep vertical mullions with fritted or coated glass will run along the curtain wall on the west side to aid in sun control. The current plan calls for major signage "wings" and entry canopies at the primary northwest and the secondary mid-block entrance at the building's south side. The south elevation will use the same family of materials, but with the primary facade rendered in stone cladding and punched windows. A curtain wall system will be overlayed on the stone facade from the second floor to the fifth floor. The interior program will consist of instruction space, a 300-seat auditorium, Socratic-form classrooms, seminar rooms, learning centers/computer labs and moot courts A method of teaching law and legal skills that requires students to analyze and argue both sides of a hypothetical legal issue using procedures modeled after those employed in state and federal appellate courts. . The Mendik Law Library with its various collections, including 500 rare books will also find its new home at 185 West Broadway. The program will also include support facilities, student & faculty dining facilities, and state-of-the-art A/V (1) (Audio/Video) Refers to equipment and applications that deal with sound and sight. The A/V world includes microphones, tape recorders, audio mixers, still and video cameras, film projectors, slide projectors, VCRs, CD and DVD players/recorders, amplifiers and and technology systems. Phase II administrative space will include the dean's office, and the offices of academic affairs, admissions, finance and administration, development and alumni relations, professional development and public affairs Those public information, command information, and community relations activities directed toward both the external and internal publics with interest in the Department of Defense. Also called PA. See also command information; community relations; public information. . The basement levels will require phased excavation and foundation work that incorporates the installation of a slurry wall system, creating a waterproof concrete bathtub foundation. After site mobilization and the demolition of the existing narrow building to the east on Leonard Street, work on the foundation wall will include pre-trenching, slurry wall installation, and "top down" construction of the basement levels one through four. The slurry wall will reach bedrock at a depth of approximately 100 feet. The existing water table is at a depth of approximately 15 feet below-grade. Caissons bearing on rock will support the remainder of the building. The project is located within proximity of a subway line under West Broadway, which is currently requiring the project team to closely coordination with the MTA (1) (Message Transfer Agent or Mail Transfer Agent) The store and forward part of a messaging system.
