The construction contractor is Slattery Skanska/Gottlieb Skanska IV.

The cornerstone of the project will be a 50-foot-high steel and glass building, reminiscent of stations from an earlier era, which will serve as the new entrance to both the IND and IRT stations.

The building will feature a facade consisting primarily of solid glass blocks and a painted steel curtain This article is about the term with respect to Pittsburgh Steelers lore. For the 2005 Marine operation, see Operation Steel Curtain.

Additionally, it will be outfitted with new canopies and windscreens, and additional, widened stairways will alleviate crowded conditions. The belowgrade IND station will have corridors expanded, get new floor finishes, lighting, wall treatments, and safety features. There will be eight to 10 retail shops on the reconfigured mezzanine.

The project is scheduled for completion by 2006 at an estimated construction cost in excess of $80 million.
