) called on America's women, minorities, youth and immigrants to look towards the construction industry for a career as the Bureau of Labor Statistics Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)

A research agency of the U.S. Department of Labor; it compiles statistics on hours of work, average hourly earnings, employment and unemployment, consumer prices and many other variables.

 the BLS, the construction industry is the only goods-producing sector in which employment is projected to grow over the next decade. "Construction is still an industry where you can climb the ladder of success as high as you want. The opportunities for women, minorities, youth and others are endless," said AGC CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "Moreover, construction jobs pay well. BLS figures shows the average construction job pays 23 percent more than private-sector jobs overall."

BLS's 10-year projections of economic growth, employment by industry and occupation, and labor force are widely used in career guidance, in planning education and training programs, and in studying long-range employment trends. Construction and extraction occupations are projected to grow 15 percent, the same rate as the average for all occupations.

"These numbers announced by BLS are encouraging for those wanting to enter the construction industry for a career. Unfortunately, job creation is still the missing link in the economy recovery. One long-term Long-term

Other factors for individuals to consider entering the construction industry are that the construction jobs will not be exported, and often do not require an advanced education.

"Construction has provided a more stable employment environment in the past three years than most industries," Sandherr commented. "You can't export schools, roads and bridges, libraries, churches and other buildings.

'We need people to build them here. Somebody entering construction today can look forward to a career of rewarding work."
