Construction industry meets architects.

More than 250 professionals met with area architects last week to get the scoop about future projects and trends in the construction industry.

"In the construction industry, it is very necessary for us to meet the architects, because architects can tell us what is coming down the pike next year, two years and five years from now," said Lenore Janis, president of Professional Women in Construction that hosted "Meet the Architects."

Several architectural disciplines were represented at the networking session that took place at La Maganette Ristorante on August 19.

"Not only did the builders get a chance to meet the architects, the architects got a chance to meet the builders, the manufactures and the suppliers," said Rick Bell, executive director of the New York New York, state, United States

Organized in 1857, the Institute conducts various activities and programs to support the profession and enhance its public image, including periodically awarding the AIA . "The architects are only a small part of the process, if they only talked with themselves the talk would be get very obtuse indeed."

Carlos Cardosa, associate partner at Beyer Blinder and Belle; couldn't agree more. His firm is working with a concept called "Design Build" that has really caught on in the West. The concept teams architects, and contractors together to build a project within one budget and timeline.

"Design build is a delivery system where there is one build team," Cardosa said. "It provides clients with a lot less aggravation Any circumstances surrounding the commission of a crime that increase its seriousness or add to its injurious consequences.

Such circumstances are not essential elements of the crime but go above and beyond them.
. It's a meeting of the minds at some point."

However, even though the concept has not caught on in the East, Cardosa's firm is forging ahead with the idea, they believe everyone will benefit from, especially the client.

"It doesn't apply to every client and it doesn't apply to every project," Cardosa said. "But to some clients it will be like going into a store and selecting what they like. One stop shopping."

Bell also announced the grand opening of the new downtown headquarters of the New York AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture  headquarters, which will take place over three days, Sept. 7-9.

Once opened, Bell hopes the Center of Architecture, located at 534 LaGuardia Place, will drawn the architectural community as well as the public, who may be interested in building design, Bell said.

"The Port Authority is instrumental in bringing back downtown," Davidson said. "We have terrific plans for downtown and are very excited."

The next project to be completed is public space at Church and West Street, he said.
