Many of the construction companies that were active in the greater Valley or headquartered in the region also did a significant amount of work outside the area. The two largest construction companies on the Business Journal list, Bernards Bros BROS Brothers BROS Benefits and Retirement Operations Section (King County, Washington) BROS Barnes and Richmond Operatic Society (London, UK) . Construction and Oltmans Construction Co., each did the lion's share all, or nearly all; the best or largest part; - from Æsop's fable of the lion hunting in company with certain smaller beasts, and appropriating to himself all the prey. CONSTRUCTION No. 1 on this year's Business Journal list of construction companies is Bernards Bros. Construction with 2005 revenues of $378 million. San Fernando-based Bernards, founded in 1974 by Doug DOUG Dumb Old Utility Guy and Greg GREG Great Egg Harbor National Scenic and Recreational River (US National Park Service) Bernards, specializes in general contracting. The company is ranked No. 118 in Engineering News Record's list of top 400 contractors in the nation. In 2005, the company completed 10 projects in the Valley totaling 512,000 square feet.
