Construction commences on Jakarta Stock Exchange.

Construction has begun on the Jakarta Stock Exchange BUilding (JSEB), phase one of the 40-hectare central business district development in downtown Jakarta, Indonesia.

Completion is anticipated by mid1995. The design of the 205,000-squaremeter office building and trading facility was awarded to U.S.-based Brennan Beer Gomman/Architects (BBG/A), in cooperation with three local design partners: P.T. ArkOnin, Atelier 6, and P.T. Encona Engineering Inc. BBG/A won the commission after an international competition against architects from Japan, Australia and Hong Kong,

The developer is a joint venture between P.T. Danareksa (the state securities company) and P.T. Jakarta International Hotels and Development (owner of the Borobudur Inter-Continental Hotel).

The scope of BBG/A's work for the JSEB will consist of two 32--story office towers connected by a Icur-story podium and common lobby, which will house the new trading floor of the Jakarta Stock Exchange. Each tower consists of a cluster of three equilateral triangles, set-back at the upper seven floors to create a unique and exciting viis glass and granite, with major graniteclad columns and striking all-glass comers. There are two levels of underground parking.

The central business district development -- Sudirman CBD -- is centrally located near the Semanggi interchange, Jakarta's main traffic hub. It will be a fully-integrated self supporting urban core including high-rise office complexes, first-class hotels, condOminium apartments, shopping and recreational facilities, and two levels of underground parking.

The 40 hectare (400,000 square meters, or two million square meters of built space) mixed-use development will have 25 parcels to be phased Out in six development stages. The master plan completion is expected to take 10 to 15 years at an estimated cost of $3.2 billion.
