Construction begins on citizens park.


Groundbreaking on a new park dedicated to citizens and "a love of open space" brought community leaders and citizen groups together in November in Barrington Barrington, town (1990 pop. 15,849), Bristol co., E R.I., on the Barrington River; settled c.1670, included in Massachusetts until 1746, inc. 1770. It is a residential and resort area. Barrington College is there., Ill. The new 55-acre park will be located near the downtown area of Barrington and will provide various amenities, but still maintain the natural beauty of the site.

Park improvements are not to disturb mature trees, and will include a pavilion with concessions, picnic shelters, a gazebo, a maintenance facility, an outdoor amphitheatre that utilizes the natural terrain for a seating area and a warming shelter. One of the most unique characteristics will be a 2,000-square-foot, fully accessible tree house designed by Forever Young Treehouses, Burlington, Vt., and installed as a joint initiative of the Park District and the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA NISRA - National Intercollegiate Squash Racquet Association
