Construction begins on Market Street.SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 1995--Major construction begins on Market St. this week on the section between 11th St. and Duboce Ave. and part of the Market St. Transit Thoroughfare THOROUGHFARE. A street or way so open that one can go through and get out of it without returning. It differs from a cul de sac, (q.v.) which is open only at one end. 2. Whether a street which is not a thoroughfare is a highway, seems not fully settled. Project, Phase 4. To make new groupings of or working arrangements between. , overhead wire consolidation, partial street reconstruction (such as new paving), installation of medians with 13 Canary Island palm trees, installation of wheelchair-accessible streetcar boarding islands, and modification of traffic controls (such as a new traffic light at Valencia, and new turn lanes.) Some fairly minor work will also be necessary on lower sections of Market St., including overhead wire replacement from 8th to 11th streets, and boarding island construction at key stops from 11th to Transbay Terminal starting roughly in early March. The new boarding islands will include plaques of poetry embedded Inserted into. See embedded system. in them, due to the efforts of the S.F. Art Commission. Construction work hours will generally be on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., though some night and weekend work will be necessary, particularly at intersections. Muni electric-trolley bus lines 6, 8, 21, 47 and 49 will run diesel buses on some days, and may be rerouted or have some of their stops discontinued on a temporary, short-term basis due to construction. Upon completion of this $10 million construction project in early October 1995, Muni will begin service on the colorful F line on Market Street from the Transbay Terminal (Mission and Fremont) to Market and Castro. The F-Market replaces the 8-Market trolley bus trolley bus n.
