Constitutional Reforms Committee recommends abolishing ban on qualification for contesting elections.

ISLAMABAD, November 17, 2009 (Balochistan Times): The political parties in the Parliament special committee for constitutional reforms have recommended stoppage of wrong use of articles 62, 63 and making amendments in the strict sections of these two articles and abolishing the condition on educational qualification for contesting elections. The meeting of the committee was held here on Tuesday with its chairman Senator Mian Raza Rabbani in the chair and was attended by Babar Awan, Naveed Qamar, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Haji Adeel, Munir Khan Orakzai, S. M. Zafar, Waseem Sajjad, Ahsan Iqbal, Abdur Rahim Mandokhel and Aftab Ahmad Sherpao. According to sources, the meeting reviewed in detail the articles 62 and 63 and sought opinions of various parties on these articles; whence majority of the members proposed to make relaxation in the two articles, because under these articles most of the eligible persons can not contest elections, while also abolishing the condition of educational qualification. Sources said Mian Raza Rabbani told the meeting that he tried to dispose off the matter of constitutional amendments as soon as possible. however constitutional matter is very sensitive and do not want to take any decision in haste, he cautioned. He informed that meeting that the government has given mandate to the committee regarding constitutional matters in the Aghaz -e-Haqooq- e-Balochistan, which the committee would complete with the consultations of all members.
