Constella Group to Continue Support of NIEHS' National Toxicology Program through Win of Five-Year Contract.

, a leading global provider of professional health services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract , has won a five-year, $21 million contract with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is one of 27 Institutes and Centers of the National Institutes of Health (NIH),which is a component of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Director of the NIEHS is Dr. David A. Schwartz.  (NIEHS NIEHS National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH, DHHS) ) to support the National Toxicology Program National Toxicology Program Environment A program that conducts toxicologic tests on substances frequently found at the EPA's National Priorities List sites, which have the greatest potential for human exposure  (NTP (Network Time Protocol) A TCP/IP protocol used to synchronize the real time clock in computers, network devices and other electronic equipment that is time sensitive. It is also used to maintain the correct time in NTP-based wall and desk clocks. ). NTP is a federal program established in 1978 to evaluate the potential toxicity of various chemicals and other agents that are of public health concern.

The new contract combines two contracts in statistical and computer support and continues the company's long-standing relationship with NIEHS. Constella has held the statistical contract since 1986 and the computer support contract since 2000.

For the statistical contract component, Constella provides data analyses for chronic, subchronic and reproductive studies conducted by the NTP. It also provides statistical support for epidemiological and other human studies conducted by the Institute, develops mathematical models for biological processes, analyzes genomics data, develops mathematical and statistical methods for toxicological applications and publishes scientific papers in the Institute's fields of interest.

The information-technology part of the contract involves ongoing program support for the Toxicology toxicology, study of poisons, or toxins, from the standpoint of detection, isolation, identification, and determination of their effects on the human body. Toxicology may be considered the branch of pharmacology devoted to the study of the poisonous effects of drugs.  Data Management System Enterprise, a comprehensive, Web-based system that Constella developed for NTP to store all program data and to assist in analyzing data through multiple reporting functions.
