metal detector that incorporates a DSP-type microprocessor for the inspection of food and other products. This work has now resulted in the launch of their latest development, the CEIA-THS/3F Trio multi-frequency metal detector.

This multi-frequency metal detector can learn the frequency as well as product parameters required, by simply passing a product through the detector's aperture An orifice. It often refers to an opening in which light is allowed to pass in optical systems such as cameras and lasers. See f-stop and numerical aperture. .

Product data, including the required frequency, are stored in the product memory and automatically changed along with product data when a product is selected from the stored selection on the menu of the Trio.

Thus, products wrapped in metallised film can be inspected by the same metal detector as that used for products in polyethylene, with different settings, which provides improved sensitivity for all products being inspected.

The Trio has an additional feature that can be applied when the product learn feature is being applied; it can be biased towards the detection of stainless steel stainless steel: see steel.
stainless steel

Any of a family of alloy steels usually containing 10–30% chromium. The presence of chromium, together with low carbon content, gives remarkable resistance to corrosion and heat.
. With this facility set on and the product wrapped in a metallised film, sensitivities of 1.0mm for ferrous ferrous (fĕr`əs), iron in the +2 valence state.

Containing or having to do with iron. The difference between ferrous and ferric is the number of valence electrons they contain (ferrous contains two and ferric contains three), which
metals, 1.2mm for non ferrous and 1.3mm with 316 stainless steel can be achieved.
