Consorta Members Can Now Buy Mammography CAD Systems from Kodak.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eastman Kodak Company announced today that Consorta, Inc. has awarded the company a three-year contract for mammography mammography, diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X rays to detect abnormalities in the breasts. The early diagnosis of breast cancer made possible by the routine use of mammography for screening women increases a woman's treatment alternatives and improves her  computer-aided detection (CAD) systems.

Consorta, a leading healthcare resource management and group purchasing organization A group purchasing organization is an entity that leverages the purchasing power of a group of businesses to obtain discounts from vendors based on the collective buying power of the GPO members. Many GPOs are funded by administrative fees that are actually paid by the vendors. , will make the system available to its membership, which is composed of faith-based and non-profit health systems across the country. Through the three-year agreement, effective October 1, 2005, Kodak will make available its KODAK Mammography CAD System to more than 500 acute and 300 extended care facilities nationwide.

Kodak's CAD system uses sophisticated algorithms to help identify suspicious areas on patients' digitized mammograms. KODAK CAD software was engineered for ease of use and the system is small enough to easily fit in most healthcare facilities. Kodak's mammography CAD system can help provide better patient care with fewer missed cancers and earlier cancer detection, backed by Kodak's services and support infrastructure.

This is Kodak's third contract with Consorta. The company also has a contract with Consorta for computed radiography radiography: see X ray.  (CR) and digital radiography digital radiography Imaging A format for producing x-rays in which film used to produce conventional x-ray images is replaced with more sensitive sensitive electronics; DXRs produce images with12  (DR) image capture systems, radiology and mammography medical films, and for laser imaging systems.
