, CA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 1998--Logistics Manager 2-D, a powerful, PC-based shipping and logistics software package is now available through Consolidated Freightways Consolidated Freight was the 3rd biggest trucking company in the US. In the 1930s they started their own truck manufacturing operation, Freightliner, now part of DaimlerChrysler.  (CF).

The menu-driven software -- which is Year-2000 compliant and written for the Windows(R) environment used by most businesses -- empowers customers to efficiently manage supply chain information. In addition to standard transportation and logistics functions, the package's capabilities include the ability to run on a network, generate international documentation, and create customized bills of lading and shipping labels.

Logistics Manager 2-D incorporates state-of-art two-dimensional barcoding technology from Symbol Technologies, the world's largest manufacturer of barcoding equipment. The 2-D technology enables the software to print PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format. 417 (Portable Data File 417) two-dimensional bar codes that contain all information included on a standard bill of lading A document signed by a carrier (a transporter of goods) or the carrier's representative and issued to a consignor (the shipper of goods) that evidences the receipt of goods for shipment to a specified designation and person. .

"The breakthrough technology makes Logistics Manager 2-D the most sophisticated supply chain management software available today," says Joe Schillaci, executive vice president of sales and marketing at CF. "The 2-D technology allows users to capture multi-page documents and compress the contents into a two-dimensional bar code."

The software prints bill of lading information as a Portable Data File that is less than three square inches and follows ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  standard, EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) The electronic communication of business transactions, such as orders, confirmations and invoices, between organizations. Third parties provide EDI services that enable organizations with different equipment to connect.  (204) format. A light squeeze of the trigger on a hand-held scanner unzips the bar code contents with 100 percent accuracy -- eliminating the necessity of re-keying bill of lading data.

"Logistics Manager 2-D eliminates data entry errors, reduces paperwork and bundles several applications into one software package," Schillaci explains. "It's a better, faster, smarter way of managing transportation logistics information."

See Y2K problem. ," adds Schillaci. "While we have been upgrading for years, companies installing Logistics Manager 2-D get a fully compliant Y2K See Y2K problem and Y2K compliant.
