Consolidated Freightways Honors Four Drivers Who Have Surpassed Three Million Safely Driven Miles.

 long-haul freight specialist, will formally honor four drivers who have surpassed three million accident-free miles.

Over the past few months, these professional long-haul drivers -- James W. Hatfield, Robert J. Shearer, Paul J. Ririe and Desmond R. Ricks -- have each surpassed an extraordinary safe driving plateau that is the equivalent of 120 trips around the world or 500 roundtrips between New York City New York City: see New York, city.

 to the sides of each dedicated unit. In addition, an honorary bronze dash plaque has been installed in the cab of each unit. CF also honors its three million-milers with $1,000 in Consolidated Freightways Corporation stock. Those reaching one- and two million-miles receive $300 and $500 in stock, respectively. All drivers surpassing one million-miles earn a commemorative plaque, lapel pin and a special-issue employee identification card. In addition, a nameplate honoring each driver is posted at the team member's hometown service center and at CF's headquarters in Vancouver, Washington.

Combined, these three million-milers have more than 130 years of service with Consolidated Freightways. James W. Hatfield began his driving career with CF in Chicago in 1966. He transferred to Salt Lake City in 1971. He and his wife Mary reside in Draper and have seven children and nine grandchildren. In 1967, Robert J. Shearer also started his CF driving career in Chicago, transferring to Salt Lake City in 1971. He and his wife Donna have one son and live in West Valley City.

Paul J. Ririe started driving for CF in 1971. He has been domiciled in Salt Lake City his entire career. He and his wife Phyllis reside in Salt Lake City and they have seven children. Desmond R. Ricks, who began driving for CF in 1972, has also been stationed at Salt Lake City throughout his career. He and his wife Helen live in Salt Lake City and they have five children and 16 grandchildren.
