New operational functions enable viewing of inventory in process so that material locations can be queried or presented for visibility at necessary times. In addition, a new exception page lets users report exceptions immediately and initiate appropriate corrective action A corrective action is a change implemented to address a weakness identified in a management system. Normally corrective actions are instigated in response to a customer complaint, abnormal levels if internal nonconformity, nonconformities identified during an internal audit or  or review functions. In addition, FlowStream now provides flexible EID compliance features enabling secure control for verifications and approval of all operational functions, in anticipation of upcoming regulations. A new suite of application programming interfaces (API's) and script enhancements support tighter integration with automated systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning See ERP.

New Document Management Interface

FlowStream Release 3.2 includes turnkey integration with Documentum Inc.'s Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS (Electronic Document Management System or Enterprise Document Management System ) See document management.

EDMS - Electronic Document Management System
), Release 2.0. Consilium and Documentum announced a strategic marketing and technology alliance in October 1994.

Documentum is the leading document management and workflow system in the pharmaceutical industry with installations at over 30 companies. The integration with FlowStream provides companies with improvements in productivity, quality, and compliance by automating the creation, approval and distribution of controlled documents such as SOPs, MSDS MSDS Material Safety Data Sheets, see there , etc. Specifically, it enables them to:

-- Streamline document approvals with effectivity-based workflow

-- Deliver accurate and up-to-date document information to FlowStream users

-- Manage electronic batch records and deviation reports through tight integration with the MES control environment

-- Easily share and exchange documents with QA, R&D, Engineering, and other departments

The availability of the Documentum system on the HP U/X platform in addition to the Novasoft document management system (available on both the HP U/X and Digital VAX (Virtual Address eXtension) A venerable family of 32-bit computers from HP (via Digital and Compaq) introduced in 1977 with the VAX-11/780. VAX models ranged from desktop units to mainframes all running the same VMS operating system, and VAXes could emulate PDP models  platforms), enables Consilium FlowStream customers to choose the document management system best suited to their needs.

Improved Archival Capabilities

With Release 3.2, FlowStream's Notebook and Logbook histories can now be archived to an ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers.  format to support the pharmaceutical industries' requirement for lengthy data availability. The system builds an ASCII file of processing histories for off-line storage and then de-archives that information back into a FlowStream database. This enables users to store very long term histories (10 years) in the most flexible format available. The improved archival capabilities streamline the research and production processes by enabling cost-effective support of long term data access and management needs -- designed to support the entire health care product lifecycle, regardless of technology futures.

Performance Improvements

In addition to the new application functionality, FlowStream Release 3.2 incorporates streamlined memory and CPU CPU
