For those of us who had looked over the wall into East Berlin during the iron-fisted days of communism, the mementoes were particularly poignant. I presented my piece of wall to my mother, who gave it pride of place on the mantelpiece... that is until someone pointed out that the world''s most notorious barricade had been infused with asbestos. So ultimately a sorry fate for this little piece of history, which was recycled as land in-fill for Sefton council.
