) today completed retirement of 7.875% Senior Notes due 12/15/00. Issued in 1998, the original face amount on these notes was $150 million. $18.5 million had been retired before maturity. The remaining balance paid today was $131.5 million.

This debt retirement is part of Conseco's plan to reduce bank and public debt by $2 billion before the end of 2001. With today's retirement of senior notes, total debt reduced so far under the plan is $808.4 million.
