Conseco Directors and Officers Complete Expanded Stock Purchase Plan; Company Reiterates "Comfort" with Analyst Estimates for 1998 and 1999.

) today announced the completion of the previously announced stock purchase program designed to encourage long-term shareholdings among its directors, executive officers and key employees. Approximately 170 Conseco directors and managers, including all nine executive officers of the company and approximately 80 managers of the company's Green Tree Financial subsidiary, participated in the program. The program was expanded from 4 million to approximately 4.5 million shares in order to accommodate the demand from participants.

Stephen C. Hilbert, Conseco's chairman, president and chief executive officer, acquired 600,000 shares through the program, and bought an additional 400,000 shares in separate open market purchases.

Conseco also said today that both of its principal businesses - insurance and finance - are performing at or above expectations so far in 3Q98, and that management remains comfortable with the current consensus analyst estimates (according to according to
