Conroy plans retail center for former Bloomingdale's.

Mayor Stanley Esposito of Stamford, Connecticut, has announced that a contract has been signed for the sale of the former Bloomingdale's department store and related property in the city's downtown business district by Federated Department Stores to Stamford Centre Associates, a joint venture of the Conroy Development Company, of Greenwich, and Ceruzzi Properties, of Westport, Connecticut.

Plans for the project, to be known as Stamford Place, include the redevelopment of the former 230,000-square-foot store into a multi-tenanted retail center, the refurbishment of the existing 1,000 car garage facility, and the construction of an enclosed pedestrian bridge connecting the garage to the building.

Redevelopment of the property, which is located at Washington Boulevard and Broad Street, is expected to begin during the first quarter of 1993.

Danbury Place is currently under construction and will be occupied 100 percent by Home Depot, Linens |N' Things, and Bob's Stores, both are divisions of Melville Stores, and by a branch of the Connecticut National Bank.

Lou Ceruzzi indicated that initial commitments to the project include Office Maxx, a division of K-Mart. Negotiations are in an advanced stage with other major national retailers.
