ConocoPhillips Directs $8 Million to Louisiana Communities.

ConocoPhillips has extensive operations in both areas, including the 255,000 barrel-per-day (BD) Alliance refinery in Belle Chasse and the 239,000 BD Lake Charles refinery.

. In addition, the Plaquemines Parish School District will receive $1 million to support academic programs that include science labs for physics, chemistry and biology instruction.

"We appreciate the contribution and the fact that ConocoPhillips asked what we needed most," said Plaquemines Parish President Benny Rousselle Benny Rousselle (born ca. 1951) is a Democratic politician from Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, in the Greater New Orleans area. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1996 to 1999 and on the Plaquemines Parish Council, as a councillor from 1991 to 1995. . "ConocoPhillips' contributions enable us to both improve our schools and build a community center that will serve generations of our citizens."

The SOWELA SOWELA Southwest Louisiana (technical community college)  Technical Community College in Lake Charles will receive $2 million from ConocoPhillips. The funds will be used to build a new industrial technology building to house the process technology, instrument technology and allied technical programs.

Stanley Leger, chancellor of SOWELA, said, "This generous contribution to construct an Industrial Technology Center helps us continue our mission to provide a lifelong teaching and learning environment for people in Lake Charles and all of southwest Louisiana. Because of damage to our campus from Hurricane Rita Hurricane Rita was the fourth-most intense Atlantic hurricane ever recorded and the most intense tropical cyclone ever observed in the Gulf of Mexico. Rita caused $11.3 billion in damage on the U.S. Gulf Coast in September 2005. , our students need a new facility, which is now possible thanks to the company's donation."

The combined $8 million donation announced today is in addition to the previously announced $7 million in hurricane-related contributions given by ConocoPhillips in the Gulf Coast region following last year's storms.
