Connor's hat-trick seals place in final; The Big Match COVENTRY MINOR LEAGUE Under-16s Cup.

Byline: By Rob Blundell

Christ the King 3

Future Legends 0

A WELL-TAKEN hat-trick from striker Connor Evans saw Christ The King reach the league cup final, although they did not have it easy against "C" Division opponents Future Legends.

The first half was very evenly contested with few clear chances.

The best of these fell to Kings who were slightly more direct in their approach and consequently looked the more likely to score.

Legends had the lion's share of possession but, for all their neat passing triangles, rarely managed to get behind the home side's defence or trouble keeper Carl Ronan.

On 13 minutes, Evans saw his 18-yard shot deflected wide. From the resulting corner, John Cusker leaped above a static Legends defence and headed towards goal only for a defender to eventuality scramble the ball clear.

Four minutes later, Ronan appeared to have been beaten by a close-range effort as Legends had a rare sight of goal, but the grounded Kings keeper somehow managed to stick out an arm and knock the ball away.

Eight minutes before the interval the Legends managed to keep the ball out by a combination of determination and fortune after Greg Binns pounced on a poor defensive header and unselfishly tried to set up Max West, rather than having a shot himself.

West's shot was blocked on the line and, in the ensuing scramble, there were appeals for handball but the referee waved them away.

Christ The King began the second half in much more determined mood and quickly prised open the door to the final as the Legends defence left Evans unmarked and he dispatched a left-wing cross into the bottom corner.

Ameet Heir went close for the Legends as they sought a quick reply, but he was unable to find the target from 20 yards after seizing on a rare Danny Kenny mistake.

At the other end, West was denied by a good stop from Said Mohammed, although the keeper was at fault on 55 minutes when he patted down James Diegan's shot, failed to gather the ball cleanly and was robbed by Evans who rolled the ball into the unguarded net.

Four minutes later the game was over as a contest as Evans completed his treble.

Mohammed did well to save Evans' first shot and a defender made a fine tackle to dispossess dispossess v. to eject someone from real property, either legally or by self help.  West as he looked to profit from the loose ball, but it did break for Evans who drove into the roof of the net.

Glody Makiese nearly pulled one back for Legends but was denied by a fine Ronan block, while Diegan should have extended Kings' lead nine minutes from time but lashed the ball over the bar with only Mohammed to beat.
