CNR - Communication and Network Riser

(computer) Power Macintosh - Apple Computer's personal computer based on the PowerPC, introduced on 1994-03-14. Existing 680x0 code (both applications and device drivers) run on Power Macintosh systems without modification via a Motorola 68LC040 emulator.
computers, including internal arrays that offer twice the performance of competing single-drive offerings.

The latest additions to Conner's DiskStor product line include 1GB, 2GB and 4GB internal or external systems. The disk array products are designed to meet the storage requirements of data intensive applications typically run on Power Macintosh computers.

"These new DiskStor products, the first from Conner designed specifically for the Apple aftermarket, provide exceptional performance and value for Apple users. This performance is especially important to those involved with post-production video editing See nonlinear video editing and video editor. , pre-press publishing, illustration and graphic design," said Don Massaro, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Conner.

"Our internal arrays in particular are well designed for the Apple market, and they set a new standard for speed as well as low noise and low power."

Conner's DiskStor array upgrade kits are designed for use with Apple's PowerMac 8100 and 8150. These self-cooled systems consist of a carrier with a pair of quiet, low power disk drives -- either the Conner Filepro Performance 1060 (providing a total of 2GB of storage capacity) or the Conner Filepro Performance 2105 (providing a total of 4GB of storage capacity).

The arrays fit smoothly into the computer's existing expansion slot A receptacle inside a computer or other electronic system that accepts a printed circuit board. The number of slots determines future expansion. See PC data buses.

ports. Conner's internal arrays solve heat and noise problems often associated with other high capacity disk drives while offering higher performance.

Conner external disk arrays

Conner's external arrays are shipped with the required cable to connect the two drives to Apple's A and B SCSI ports. The drives feature an acoustically mounted fan for cool, quiet operation, external termination and SCSI ID (hardware) SCSI ID - The unique address of a SCSI device. SCSI IDs range from 0 to 7 for 8-bit SCSI systems, 0 to 15 for 16-bit and 0 to 31 for 32-bit systems. The SCSI adaptor is usually assigned ID 7. A device's SCSI ID is often set by switches on the device.  select switches, and twin SCSI-2 connectors that allow multiple drives to be easily daisy-chained together for more capacity.

Conner's DiskStor arrays (internal and external) come with striping Interleaving or multiplexing data to increase speed. See disk striping.

striping - data striping
software that permits data from a single record to be written to and read from two drives simultaneously. Striping permits Conner's arrays to operate three times faster than factory installed drives, achieving sustained data transfers as high as 6.4MB per second and average seek times as low as 4.75 milliseconds.

The arrays are available in both Fast SCSI-2 and Fast Wide SCSI-2 configurations. Arrays for Fast Wide SCSI-2 are shipped with a Nubus host adapter Also called a "controller" or "host bus adapter," it is a device that connects one or more peripheral units to a computer. It is typically an expansion card that plugs into the bus. IDE and SCSI are examples of peripheral interfaces that call their controllers host adapters. See host.  that offers sustained transfer rates as high as 13.5MB per second.

Conner single-drive solutions

In addition to arrays, Conner's DiskStor line includes external 1GB and 2GB single-drive solutions that are compatible with most Macintosh computers. Internal single-drive versions offering 1GB or 2GB of storage are also available for Apple's Quadra 800 and 840av, as well as the PowerMac 8100 and 8150.

The single-drive internal and external models are available with the Fast SCSI-2 interface. External versions feature external termination and SCSI ID select switches and twin SCSI-2 connectors to daisy-chain the drives.

Conner's new disk drive products are SCSI Manager 4.3 compliant and compatible with the Apple Macintosh Apple Macintosh - Macintosh  System 7.5 operating system operating system (OS)
