CNR - Communication and Network Riser ), Monday announced that its family of nStor(tm) RAID subsystems have received approval to use the CE marking, increasing market opportunities for Conner in European companies. "The approval to use the CE marking is another component in our strategy toward leadership in the fast-growing European market," said Joel Appelbaum, senior vice president and general manager, Conner Storage Systems. "There's explosive growth of storage requirements for networks and because our products meet the European Commission's Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, European organizations can continue to take advantage of Conner's scalable, fault-tolerant, high-performance RAID storage solutions." The goal of the directive is to harmonize technical regulations for the European Community and create a level playing field See net neutrality. for manufacturers of electrical and electronic products. According to the directive, as of Jan. 1, 1996, products must be constructed so they do not cause excessive electromagnetic interference See EMI. and are not unduly affected by electromagnetic interference. Products meeting the requirements carry a CE marking which means they can be sold anywhere in the European Community. Robust Product Family Conner RAID subsystems provide robust network storage solutions across heterogeneous environments, particularly for storage-hungry applications such as document imaging, video and multimedia, or transaction-heavy environments such as banking and order-entry systems. In addition, as companies continue their move toward client/server systems, data storage requirements on both networks and specialized workstations are growing exponentially, and tolerance for system downtime is near zero, thus providing a strong global market for RAID devices. The Conner family of nStor disk arrays includes the CR2, CR6, CR8 and CR12 subsystems which provide mid-range storage solutions (expandable up to 200GB of RAID 5 storage per file server), fault tolerance and high performance. The nStor CR6, CR8 and CR12 products include Smart Cabinet(tm) electronics and StorView(tm) management software for centralized control and monitoring of RAID units. nStor RAID subsystems support EISA (Extended ISA) Pronounced "ee-suh." A PC bus standard that extends the 16-bit ISA bus (AT bus) to 32 bits and provides bus mastering. ISA cards can plug into an EISA slot. (2) (Peripheral Component Interconnect) The most widely used I/O bus (peripheral bus). bus-based, or subsystem-based controllers, making them ideal for video and imaging applications where fast performance is critical. All nStor subsystems from Conner support a variety of operating systems, including Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT Server, SCO UNIX, SCO OpenServer, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) OS/2 LAN Server, and IBM OS/2 Warp. Continuing Conner Storage Systems' tradition of service and support, the Conner family of nStor products is backed by trained customer support specialists and cross-shipment for product repairs under warranty. The group sells products through a worldwide network of dealers, distributors and value-added resellers. Founded in 1986, Conner sells, designs and builds a comprehensive line of information storage solutions products, including disk drives, tape drives, storage management software and disk array storage systems, for a wide range of computer applications. Conner had 1994 sales of $2.4 billion. Conner's World Wide Web address is http://www.conner.com. -0- Note to Editors: All trademarks or registered trademarks are those of their respective owners.
