Connectware introduces new ATM Starter Systems; PC desktop and Sun UNIX versions allow companies opportunity to quickly begin testing ATM.

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 1995--Connectware Inc., a subsidiary of AMP Inc., Harrisburg, Pa., Monday introduced three new CELLerity Asynchronous Transfer Mode See ATM.

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
 versions.

The systems are designed to provide companies a cost-effective way to introduce ATM into their organizations prior to a full enterprise-wide implementation.

The Connectware systems are based on ATM Forum-specified, flow control technology and LAN Emulation. Each system includes Network Interface Cards (NICs), a CELLerity OC-3 switch, a network management element manager, and software. (Refer to specifics fact sheet, below, for product specifications, pricing, distribution and availability.)

"These Starter Systems provide companies a way to bring up an ATM network quickly," said Tim Sullivan, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and president of Connectware, "thereby allowing users to become familiar with the benefits of ATM technology before making a major financial commitment for large-scale deployment.

"Joining the world of ATM with a CELLerity Starter System enables companies to create a migration plan to ATM solutions while protecting their existing network investments."

Called the CELLerity 6910 Starter System and the CELLerity 6920 Starter System, these ATM starter systems are the newest additions to Connectware's CELLerity family of ATM solutions. The CELLerity 6910 provides the PC desktop environment (PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

The CELLerity 6920 provides the Sun UNIX (SBus) workgroup user with the ability to create either a native ATM network or run classical IP applications over ATM.

The CELLerity Starter Systems deliver cost-effective Network Interface Cards (NICs) with a custom single chip ATM Segmentation and Reassembly segmentation and reassembly - segmentation  (SAR (Segmentation And Reassembly) The protocol that converts data to cells for transmission over an ATM network. It is the lower part of the ATM Adaption Layer (AAL), which is responsible for the entire operation. See AAL.
