Single-Chip Solution for Combined 320MB/Second Data Transfer Rate Plus

Patented Architecture for Highest System Performance

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 2000

ConnectCom Solutions Inc., (ConnectCom) today announced its AdvanSys ASC ASC Ambulatory surgery center, see there 38C1600 Dual Channel Ultra160/m SCSI SCSI

Designed to provide end users working on high performance desktop computers and servers with a fast and robust storage interface, the ASC38C1600 combines two independent channels on one chip to give system designers a combined data transfer rate of up to 320 megabytes (MB) per second. It employs a patented software architecture and provides bus interface flexibility for migration, technology upgrades and expansion needs.

The ASC38C1600 is sampling today to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers. Production availability of the chip and board products will be in April 2000. In 1000-piece quantities, the ASC38C1600 will be priced at $63.35, and the ASB3950U160MW is priced at $299 (MSRP MSRP Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

"ConnectCom is proud to offer an industry-leading dual channel SCSI chip based on its patented software architecture," said Bob Pleva, director of product marketing at ConnectCom. "With the AdvanSys ASC38C1600, our customers have high performance Ultra160/m technology with designed-in flexibility for future needs."

The ASC38C1600 also allows for any combination of 32-bit or 64-bit and 33MHz or 66MHz PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

) processors in dual channels provide highly efficient SCSI command processing and bus control. This makes the ASC38C1600 ideal for workstation, storage cluster, data mining or other bandwidth-intensive applications as well as making it the optimum choice for high performance applications that require connectivity to many devices or connectivity with legacy devices.

With outstanding performance as measured by industry benchmarks, the ASC38C1600 dramatically increases the peak data transfer rate of the current industry standard - Ultra2 SCSI .

As an Ultra160/m SCSI product (employing a specific subset of Ultra3 SCSI features), the ASC38C1600 chip builds on the earlier Ultra2 SCSI by adding three core features: double-edge clocking, cyclical redundancy checking See CRC.  (CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Checking) An error checking technique used to ensure the accuracy of transmitting digital data. The transmitted messages are divided into predetermined lengths which, used as dividends, are divided by a fixed divisor. ) and domain validation.

Double-edge clocking effectively doubles the data transfer rate by clocking data on the SCSI bus on both the leading and trailing edge of the REQ or ACK signal.

CRC relies on a proven 32-bit algorithm that ensures data integrity by including extra bytes on each data block. The CRC algorithm can detect error bursts up to 32 bits in length and reports any errors in the same manner as a parity error without requiring changes from the host software. CRC allows all data transfers to be validated as error-free.

Domain validation technology negotiates speeds with each device and tests data integrity at full negotiated speed. If necessary, both initiator and target will shift down to a lower speed to provide error-free data exchange. Thus, domain validation further ensures fully reliable communication at the highest rate possible.
