BACKGROUND: Congressman Henry Bonilla, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison Kathyrn Ann Bailey Hutchison, usually known as Kay Bailey Hutchison (born July 22 1943), is the senior United States Senator from Texas. She is a member of the Republican Party. , and Judge Nelson Wolff worked closely together to obtain the original $1 Million funding to seed the National Sustainment Technology Center (NSTC) in March of 2005. SATAI SATAI San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative SATAI Southwestern Association of Technical Accident Investigators, Inc. , through collaboration with the defense industry in San Antonio and Bexar County, was instrumental in creating the Defense Technology Cluster and has supported the National Sustainment Technology Center from its inception. The charter of the Defense Technology Cluster is to accelerate the growth and success of existing Defense Technology firms, and to support the growth of new Defense Technology firms in the San Antonio region. Many Department of Defense weapon systems are being retained in an operational status for much longer than was envisioned when they were originally designed. Most major weapon systems, which have already been operating for 30 to 40 years, are now programmed to remain in service for an additional 15 to 20 years. The DTC and NSTC bring together a critical mass of Government and Industry leaders to validate new approaches to sustainment challenges in a pragmatic business context. The test & evaluation of new technologies and training programs will complement the current activities taking place at Brooks City-Base. DTC and NSTC have integrated their efforts with other entities including the City, County, SATAI, the co-sponsors North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce as well as the South San Antonio Chamber. In addition, the DTC and NSTC work with the San Antonio Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF See reliability. ), the Defense Transformation Institute, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations. This alliance has allowed the DTC and NSTC to concentrate on bringing business opportunities to San Antonio.
