Confluent Photonics Introduces New Broadcast/Narrowcast Splitter/Combiner with DWDM Demultiplexer.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers The Western Show 2003 SALEM, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 2003 Integrated unit brings new efficiencies to downstream portion of HFC network Confluent con·flu·ent adj. 1. Flowing together; blended into one. 2. Merging or running together so as to form a mass, as sores in a rash. Photonics, a leading provider of optical transport solutions, today introduced its new Model SCD ScD [L.] Scien´tiae Doc´tor (Doctor of Science). SCD 1 Sickle cell disease, see there 2 Subacute combined degeneration, see there 3 Sudden cardiac death, see there Broadcast/Narrowcast Splitter/Combiner with an integral DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM. DWDM - wavelength division multiplexing Demultiplexer. An industry first, this fully integrated unit operates in the downstream portion of the HFC 1. (networking) HFC - Hybrid Fiber Coax. 2. (hardware) HFC - hydrofluorocarbon. system, saving shelf space and reducing exposed fiber jumpers while integrating the demux, splitting and combining functions in a single product. The unit optically splits the broadcast signal power from one fiber into 16 fibers. Power distribution may be either uniform or non-uniform. The unit also provides the demux function of separating the narrowcast signals from a single input fiber to 16 fibers with 200GHz spacing. The unit then combines each of the narrowcast signals with one of the broadcast signals from the splitter, providing 16 outgoing fibers, each containing a common broadcast signal and a unique narrowcast signal. The units provide power-monitoring capabilities for each incoming and outgoing signal, as well as convenient panel access for pad adjustment of the incoming narrowcast signals. The Model SCD demux features the same optical engine as Confluent's field proven Lightchip(TM) units with the ultra-low insertion loss, excellent uniformity and extremely low chromatic dispersion that set the industry standard for high-channel count, high-speed applications. Confluent Photonics will be demonstrating the new Model SCD Broadcast/Narrowcast Splitter/Combiner with integral DWDM Demultiplexer in booth 726 at The Western Show 2003. About Confluent Photonics Corporation Confluent Photonics Corporation is a privately held company privately held company A firm whose shares are held within a relatively small circle of owners and are not traded publicly. based in Salem, New Hampshire Salem is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 28,112 at the 2000 census. Salem is a marketing and distributing center, with several colleges, recreation attractions and a large shopping mall, the Mall at Rockingham Park. . Confluent products define the state of the art in high-performance subsystems for dense wavelength division multiplexing See WDM. . The company's DWDM systems enable service providers to increase bandwidth in CATV, metropolitan, and long-haul optical networks and to derive the maximum ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). from existing network infrastructures. These subsystems are used by leading cable and telecommunications companies and are expandable to support future components and subsystems.
