Confidential forum tours country.


A confidential forum for people who were inpatients of psychiatric hospitals in New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  before November 1992, family members of patients and staff of that era was set up by the Government earlier this year.

The forum's purpose is to Listen and gather accounts from those eligible to attend, in a non-confrontational, confidential environment. A further purpose is to assist participants to access services and agencies, by providing information and referrals. The forum is not intended to reach conclusions about what might or might not have happened, nor is it mandated to order compensation.

The forum reports on its work quarterly to its stake-holding Ministers and will make a final report towards the end of next year. Forum members are judge and former Ombudsman Anand Satyanand Anand "Satch"[2] Satyanand, PCNZM, QSO, KStJ (born (22 July 1944 in Auckland) is the Governor-General of New Zealand. People who would like to speak to the forum are invited to register by calling the 0800 number.

The forum began hearings in 3uLy and has to date met with over 100 people. Panel members will be travelling around New Zealand over the coming months to meet people who have registered to meet with them. Participants are welcome to bring support people.
