Conference held on elastomers. (Meetings).

HPE (Home Premium Edition) See Windows Vista versions.  2002, The Second International Conference Focusing on High Performance Elastomers, sponsored by Rapra Technology Lid., will be held November 13-14 at the Holiday Inn Cologne City West in Cologne, Germany.

High performance applications are said to be providing more opportunities for the elastomer elastomer (ĭlăs`təmər), substance having to some extent the elastic properties of natural rubber. The term is sometimes used technically to distinguish synthetic rubbers and rubberlike plastics from natural rubber.  industry. As the markets grow, it is said to be necessary to continually develop new materials capable of the increased performance expected for these aggressive and demanding situations.

There are many different types of high performance elastomers, but what they all have in common is flexibility combined with the ability to resist the effects of heat and chemicals, according to according to

the sponsor. In general, as thermoplastics steal applications from commodity elastomers, the high performance sector is said to be becoming more important to the rubber industry because in many applications these are the only materials capable of delivering a solution. The future of the elastomers sector is said to depend critically on the creation of new materials which deliver a better price/performance ratio In economics and engineering, the price/performance ratio refers to a product's ability to deliver performance, of any sort, for its price. For instance, if you have a whole day to travel 100 km, spending $50 to do the journey in two hours is a better price/performance ratio than  for specialty and niche markets.

The HPE 2002 conference is said to provide a focus on the many different high performance and niche elastomers available. It is said to provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the latest developments, applications and potential for the industry.

Presentations during HPE 2002 will focus on such subjects as temperature performance, chemical inertness, end user applications, market surveys, ease of processing, compatibility, cost considerations and performance issues.

Materials to be covered during the conference will include acrylic rubbers, ethylene vinyl acetate Vinyl acetate, also known as VAM for vinyl acetate monomer, has the chemical formula CH3COOCH=CH2 and is a colorless liquid with a sweet flavor. Systematic names include 1-acetoxyethylene and acetic acid ethenyl ester.  rubber, chlorosulfonated ethylene elastomers, fluoroelastomers, perfluoroelastomers, epichlorohydrin ep·i·chlo·ro·hy·drin
