Conference aims to enhance food safety standards.

Dubai: The fourth Dubai International Food Safety Conference will be held in Dubai from February 24 to 26, 2009 with a goal to enhance food safety standards Safety standards are standards designed to ensure the safety of products, activities or processes, etc. They may be advisory or compulsory and are normally laid down by an advisory or regulatory body that may be either voluntary or statutory.  in the Middle East, according to according to

The event will be held at the Dubai Convention and Exhibition Centre alongside Gulfood Exhibition.

Khalid Sharif Al Awadi, Director of Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality, said that the annual conference attracts a loyal following each year, along with a growing number of delegates involved in the development, implementation and maintenance of food safety programmes. With more than 900 participants last year, the conference has been acknowledged as the most popular food safety event in the Middle East.

The event is organised by the Food Control Department of Dubai Municipality in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Water, and is supported by the International Association for Food Protection The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), founded in 1911, is a non-profit association of food safety professionals. Comprised of a diverse membership of over 3,000 Members from 50 nations, the Association is dedicated to the education and service of its Members, as .

Al Awadi noted that each year, the overall focus of the conference programme addresses issues affecting the industry, including regulatory change and international policy implementation.
