Conexant Unveils Industry's First Single-Chip USB ADSL Modem; Highly Integrated Single-Chip Device Supersedes Multi-Chip, Multi-Vendor Solutions.

Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today announced the industry's first single-chip universal serial bus (USB) asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) modem. The CX82320 replaces up to four devices, often from multiple vendors, while cutting costs. ADSL delivers an "always on" high-speed broadband Internet connection over existing phone lines at data rates more than 100 times faster than conventional dial-up modems.

Technical Details

The CX82320 is the newest member of Conexant's AccessRunner(R) family of ADSL modems. It integrates all of the hardware functions of a USB controller, ADSL discrete multi-tone (DMT) engine, analog front end (AFE), and line driver to create a complete ADSL modem on a single chip.

The CX82320 is built upon a scalable architecture and is fully compliant with both the full-rate ADSL (T1.413 Issue 2 and G.dmt standards) and splitterless G.lite including Annex A (ADSL over POTS) and Annex B (ADSL over ISDN) with support for USB. Data transfer rates of up to eight Mbps downstream and one Mbps upstream make it an ideal solution for corporate networks, Internet access, and video delivery. This broad level of compliance ensures product interoperability both within the existing installed base and as new ADSL lines are deployed.

Pricing and Availability

Packaged in a 208-pin fine pitch ball grid array (FPBGA), the CX82320 is sampling now and priced at $22 in OEM quantities of 10,000 units. Volume production is scheduled for June of this year.
